Travelling to New Zealand with samples, equipment, stock, electronics or other goods for your business?
Do not assume that because the goods are inside your suitcase or accompanied baggage they will be treated as ordinary personal luggage. Commercial goods carried into New Zealand must be declared, and additional Customs clearance requirements can apply.
Where commercial goods have a value of NZ$1,000 or more, a full import entry will generally be required. If the goods have not been pre-cleared before arrival, they may need to be held while the appropriate clearance is arranged.
This can be particularly stressful when a traveller has already arrived in New Zealand and needs the equipment or goods immediately.

Where possible, arrange the Customs clearance before arriving in New Zealand. Pre-clearance can reduce delays and make the arrival process much easier, particularly for business travellers carrying valuable company equipment, samples or stock.
